Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (Eisenhower PTO)
Volunteer Code of Conduct
The Eisenhower PTO Volunteer Code of Conduct outlines the behavioral principles, expectations, and shared values that guide our work. It reflects how we treat and support each other and provides a foundation for decision-making, collaboration, and leadership.
This Code serves both to inspire experienced volunteers and help new members understand what it means to be part of the Eisenhower PTO community.
Integrity First
-
Honor your commitments.
If you agree to take on a task or responsibility — including maintaining confidentiality — please do your best to follow through. The success of our events, programs, and overall reputation depends on promises kept. If something changes, notify an Executive Officer as soon as possible. -
Lead by example.
Children watch how we behave. Treat all PTO members, school staff, teachers, administrators, students, and fellow volunteers with respect, regardless of personal feelings or opinions. -
Maintain professionalism.
It’s okay to disagree — but always communicate politely and respectfully. Once a decision has been made by the group, support it, even if you personally would have chosen differently. Mistakes may happen; acknowledge them, suggest improvements, and move forward. Avoid gossip, blame, or negativity, as it undermines the organization.
Service Before Self
-
Remember why we’re here.
Parents join the PTO to make a meaningful difference in their children’s education. The Eisenhower PTO exists to enhance the student experience through community involvement, pride, and purpose.
Our mission is to support the mental, physical, and social growth of every child by fostering strong home-school communication and meaningful fundraising efforts. This work is not about any one person — it’s about our collective impact on the school and our children. -
Prioritize the organization’s mission.
Put the needs of the PTO and the school above personal preferences or recognition. Refer to the PTO By-Laws when making decisions about events or initiatives. -
Be collaborative and open-minded.
Welcome new ideas and perspectives. Consider how your actions affect the organization as a whole. -
Support beyond your circle.
Volunteer to help with events and projects even if they don’t directly involve your child. When we support one another, we support all of our children. -
Be a team player.
Use your talents and strengths to contribute, and make space for others to do the same.
Excellence in All We Do
-
Be an ambassador.
Introduce yourself to other parents and invite them to get involved. A friendly invitation can make all the difference. -
Take pride in your work.
Everything you do reflects you, the PTO, and our school. Instead of complaining, offer solutions. -
Give credit where it’s due.
Celebrate your peers’ accomplishments. Likewise, own your mistakes with grace — it fosters growth and trust. -
Remember who you represent.
You are a representative of Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School, the PTO, and your family. Act with dignity and integrity.
PTO Meeting Conduct
PTO meetings are for sharing updates, reading minutes, reviewing budgets, and discussing school-related matters.
Criticism of individual staff, teachers, administrators, or parents is not permitted during general or executive meetings. Personal concerns should be taken privately to the PTO President or School Principal, in alignment with school policy and PTO By-Laws.
Adherence to the Code
This Code sets a minimum standard for behavior and engagement. While it can’t cover every situation, it serves as a guide for how we show up as volunteers.
The Code of Conduct will be available during meetings and shared through PTO communication platforms. All volunteers, meeting attendees, and Executive Board Members are expected to adhere to these standards. Failure to do so may result in removal from PTO involvement.
